V & T Innisfail Open, September 5-6

Hi ho, hi ho it’s off to golf we go, this time to visit the great people of Mt Garnet for the second round of the Tableland Challenge. Again I was proud of our club, all decked out in their club shirts and determined to make the day a success for the home club as well as our own. Congratulations to all those that worked so hard to ensure that the day was a success, the people in the kitchen, Alan, Lyn and Ron to name just a few worked hard to make us welcome.

Millaa fielded fourteen teams and for a club of our size that is an excellent effort. You will recall after the first round we were four and a half strokes behind (or ahead if you want to be pedantic) Ravenshoe. Well today our first five teams finished with 327 1/2 strokes and while we finished 1/4 of a stroke behind Mt Garnet on the day, we were good enough to finish 1/4 of a stroke ahead of Ravenshoe after the two days of the Challenge were tallied up.

Those five teams were: Paul Foster and Shawn Darby were our top team but only on a count back on the ever-reliable team of David Welch and Kelvin Groves, both teams finishing with 65 1/4 strokes. Third and fourth was also a tie between the Warrick Howwarth and Grant Miller team and the team of Gary Lobenwein and Wayne Norris with both finishing with 65

1/2 strokes. In fifth place with 66 1/4 strokes was the team of Ross Heidke and Graham Murray. in fact, of the 14 teams we had there, not one had over 71 1/2 strokes and our club team average was 68 1/4 which is a great club effort. Congratulations to those in the top five and to everyone for a beaut day’s golf and for supporting a fellow club. Next week is the Cellarbrations bottle shop-sponsored Stableford competition this is always a good day and Cellarbrations always looks after us. It’s 9am for a 9.30am start. See ya there.

News: We are still waiting to get the quotes to install the pump and tanks for our new bore, not far away I hope. The gully on 3/12 has had a shave and haircut but so that it doesn’t get away again we need someone to take it on as their responsibility. All the equipment is there and now it is clean again a couple of hours a fortnight should keep it that way.

Lovely winter weather was the order of the day at Mt Garnet as a large number of players turned up for the second round of the

Tableland Challenge.

Mt Garnet won the day, closely followed

Millaa Millaa.

Best players for Ravenshoe were Tarnia Wright and Abby MeEwan, with Prudence Wright and Caraline Soper close on their heels.

Girl power rules!

With all scores tallied, the status of the competition shows Millaa Millaa having a lead of 1/4 of a shot from Ravenshoe in the overall scores. Another close result is expected when we play the final round in Millaa Millaa in October.

A big thank you to Mt Garnet for another successful day.

Next Sunday we will have a social day for everyone — the first for many months. So dust off your clubs and come on out for a fun competition. Start time will be 10am and the competition will be a 9-hole 2-ball Ambrose. Thank you once again to the local community for your ongoing support of our social nights. Also best wishes to club stalwart, Dave Cassels who is having a few health issues at the moment. Get well soon Dave. C u @ the 19th.
