Former AFL ruckman sidesteps eager clubs

-

Graham played 48 games with the Tigers between 2007 and 2012 before being traded to Adelaide, where he failed to play a senior game in the next two seasons.

The word is Graham has a knee problem that would limit his impact if he were to play.

However, at 201cm tall and still only 33 years of age, he would be more than helpful to a local club.

Saints have tried to get Graham for months, while City Lions have also put in a request for his services at Holloways Beach, but the now Smithfieldbased

big man is yet to accept.

IT HAS been fantastic to see Saints junior Caleb Graham force his way back into the Suns’ senior side over the past few weeks.

But the ongoing absence of his junior teammate Jacob Heron is a little concerning.

Heron, 20, has not been able to secure a senior game this year and without the NEAFL being played, his chances to impress the Suns’ coaches, or other clubs that may be keen when the trade period arrives, have been limited, to say the least.

Key defender Graham has a long-term deal and has been solid in his past couple of games.

In contrast, his mate “Speedy” Heron might just be set for a nervous few months after signing just a one-year deal in late 2019.

THE Saints and South Cairns game on Saturday had a crowd full of Pink to raise money for the Couch Wellness Centre.

Saints hosted their annual ladies day and raised a stack of cash for local charity Couch, which supports people who have been affected by cancer.

“Rachael Roberts and Cara Dodds from the Bendigo Bank donated $1000 and all up we raised $3500 for Couch,” Saints president Craig Hards said.

One local politician’s Pink shirt was so bright that he could have been seen a mile away.

■DETAILS have been released around how local footy fans can get their hands on tickets for the upcoming AFL games at Cazalys Stadium.

Late last week AFL Cairns confirmed tickets would be released seven days before each match so local officials could best work with the Queensland Government in regards to coronavirus protocols, just in case attendance restrictions change.

Cazalys Stadium will be sectioned into zones one, two, three and four for the matches.

We are not far away at all from the first of our five games in FNQ, being Sydney and Melbourne on Thursday September 3.
