TWO Far Northern beachfront dining offerings have merged to create one giant seaside venue.

Chill at Portofino has officially launched at Palm Cove and combines Chill Cafe and Portofino Italian restaurant.

“One of the blessings that has been unearthed through the COVID challenge was the ability to prepare for this and we are really excited and proud of what we’ve achieved,” owner Tony Moore said.

“It enables us to elevate the experience of our guests. Two wonderful businesses made stronger by one united venue on the beachfront at Palm Cove.”

The dividing wall between the two venues has been knocked out and the kitchens combined.

“Diners are now getting the best chefs together, taking the best from Chill and the best from Portofino. All the talent is in the one engine room.”

The esplanade dining mecca has been one of the few hospitality businesses to thrive throughout the global pandemic, with an aggressive business approach.

“We went on a on a war footing from March 23, when ScoMo (Prime Minister Scott Morrison) went into lockdown, and knew it was about survival to start with, but we’ve managed to thrive,” he said.

Mr Moore said the new megavenue was in a good position to combat the “new normal” trading conditions dished up by the global pandemic.

A MAN in his 60s has been left with a fractured jaw, eye socket and ribs and his wife with facial injuries after a neighbourhood dispute over loud music allegedly turned violent.

The couple allegedly went to a nearby house in their White Rock street about 2am on Saturday to request the music be turned down. Police will allege a teenage boy walked out of the house and proceeded to bash them both.

Along with the fractures, the man also suffered lacerations to his face and arm, while the woman has facial swelling and bruising.

They were both treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Cairns Hospital for further treatment. Detectives went to the property on Monday afternoon where a 16year-old youth was taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of serious assault and is scheduled to appear in the Children’s Court.
