This choir’s performing bark

“Pup Choir is a lovely way of doing something calming with our doggies and to check in on them. Singing is one of the best stress-relievers so I know our pups will appreciate the positivity. They might even join in on the singing which would be beyond perfect.”

Pub Choir is teaming up with ThunderShirt (a pet-anxiety solutions brand which provides anxiety vests for dogs and cats) on a national search for a virtual choir of more than 50 dog owners and their best canine friend to perform the Billboard award-winning song, Thunder by Imagine Dragons, in the name of creating awareness of pet stress and anxiety.

“ThunderShirt is a company dedicated to making dogs feel less anxious and stressed, so it’s the perfect partnership,” Jorgensen says.

Many Australians are in the midst of an anxiety epidemic caused by the ever-changing world. And for some dogs, separation anxiety might occur when their owners return to work.

Ceva Animal Health managing director Chris Abbott believes it’s crucial to keep your dog physically and mentally active — especially when things go back to normal.

“During the pandemic, a lot of dog owners have been working from home and their fur babies are now used to this constant presence,” he says. “Once we return to the new normal, dogs may have severe separation anxiety and struggle to cope with being at home alone. We hope Pup Choir not only helps our beloved pups create fun, but also spreads awareness that dogs can also suffer from stress and anxiety, and to actively prepare for pets’ separation anxiety if owners’ routine normalises.”

It’s estimated almost 30 per cent of dogs suffer from stress and anxiety. Greencross Vets’ chief veterinary officer Dr Magdoline Awad says it’s important to keep our pets active while practising social distancing.

“You can still take your dogs for leash walks, being careful to maintain the two-metre rule from others,” she says.
