STORY COMES TO LIFE
SOPHIE MANNING, SHANNA MILNE, DORIAN ADCOCK, YR 3 OUR LADY HELP OF CHRISTIANS
DURING term 3, Mrs Lorraine Gameau
(IT school officer) taught year 3 students how to make a multimedia project. We learnt how to create a movie using the iMovie app.
We made a movie to retell the story of Gindarja the cassowary because year 3 are learning about First Nation Peoples’ culture in history.
This is a dreamtime story to explain why cassowaries can’t fly. It is a special story for our school because it takes place in the same suburb as our school – Earlville.
Gindarja is the main character in the story. He got stuck in the mud and when he tried to flap his wings, all of his wings fell off because he shook them so hard.
We started the project in week 5. Some classes have finished and some classes are still working on their movies. Mrs Gameau came once a week to teach us skills such as how to use sound effects and cool things like making titles and adding music and voiceovers.
We also learnt to put photos in the movie by drawing them and then taking a photo, saving it to iMovie and animating it.
After hearing the story, we drew a picture of the cassowary and six different backgrounds.
We needed to show grass, the sun, a lake, mud, mountains and a sunset.
Once the backgrounds were coloured in, we took a picture of each one, with Gindarja the cassowary in front, and saved it to iMovie.
We could animate it by taking more pictures and doing that over again. Then we joined the six or seven photos into a movie. Lastly, we made the title, added sound effects and a voice over.
Then we posted it on Seesaw for our parents to see.
The best part of creating our story on iMovie was adding sound effects.
