On COVID-19 matters

Aren’t those who approve of lockdowns really just saying I don’t want you to be free to leave your house just in case I want to leave my house?

Ric, Brinsmead

Premier Dan Andrews, “The Great Cartographer of the Mendicant People’s Republic of Victoria”, has been contradicted by the medical researchers who developed the computer models on which the road map relies. How dare they? Anti-aircraft guns at dawn, Kim-style?

Haley, Manunda

Why can’t the family who needs to see their dying dad be given COVID tests and if the results are negative let them through the border? Solutions can be found if we think outside the square.

Beth, Kanimbla

I am sick of the daily attacks on certain states by Morrison and his ministers. If Morrison also attacked Tasmania and SA over their closed borders, I could understand. He should be working on fixing the aged-care crisis not wasting time attacking Labor states for blatant political purposes.

Trevor, Park Ridge

Imagine a virus so deadly you don’t know you’ve got it unless you’re tested for it. More tests allow the government to keep the “panic-demic” going. Why would you get tested if you’ve only got the sniffles?

Higgs, Tolga

On other matters

The significant increase in traffic out of Shields St onto Abbott Street during the Esplanade closure comes with a massive risk. The right green arrow into Abbott is gone and all turning traffic is now driving into pedestrians crossing on a green walk signal. Many drivers are travelling at speed, running the red light, and many are choosing to ignore pedestrian safety and drive “through and around” pedestrians. Tailgating at speed to run the yellow lights and rear ending is now a daily event. Hopefully the council and police can do something to fix this before a pedestrian fatality.

Rick, Redlynch

Great Sunday arvo at the movies – Star Wars on the big screen. Only way to see the classics.

Babs, Yorkeys Knob

I’m confused. How can the Cairns Aquarium accept government money citing financial hardship during COVID to stay open but then make a $10,000 donation to the ALP a few months later?

Karl, Earlville

Peter Gleeson (CP, 14/9). The most confronting side of horse racing is the mindless belting in the concluding stages. Race clubs are about making the sport more acceptable to the general public. No amount of denial will remove this contentious spectacle from our TV screens. It needs to addressed for the betterment of the industry.

Racegoer, Cairns

There’s a reason why Labor has been in power for most of the last 31 years; it’s called democracy. Queenslanders don’t trust the LNP.

Harold, Edmonton

“State bid to combat a teacher shortage” (CP, 14/9). If we want to improve schools, the quality of education, and conditions for teachers we must forcibly disband the hard-left teachers’ union and end its insidious influence over the curriculum.

Joanne, Manunda

?? Picture: LAWRENCE PINDER ?? The use of whips in horse racing has become a contentious issue for those involved in the sport and spectators.
