Firebirds back star

THE Queensland Firebirds have opened an urgent investigation and vowed to support West Coast Fever player Verity Charles after a club “supporter” spat at the Fever star in Brisbane.

Charles reported being verbally abused by four women on Saturday night – one wearing a Firebirds supporters shirt – with another allegedly spitting on the ground in front of her.

Firebirds CEO Catherine Clark offered an “unreserved apology” to Charles.

Super Netball will come to Cairns this weekend, with three games at the Pop-Up Arena.
