The games were closely contested, Atherton winning the shield with a margin of 35 pts. In 2021 the game will be played at the Atherton Club

Annual General meeting was held on Sunday 20 September. This was followed by presentation of 2019 trophies, lunch & social bowls.

Wednesday was social bowls, Friday 18th Men’s Club Championship between Delmo Tarditi, Dan Dunn with 21 shots and Bryon Meyer, Len Charman 17 shots brings the winners into the next round.

Saturday 19th our big event the “Arthur Davis Shield”is contested each year between the Atherton Bowls Club and the Silkwood Bowls Club.

Our dear friends from Atherton defended their Shield successfully and it will remain in the possession of the Atherton Bowls Club until next year. Thank you to all Atherton bowlers helping us to create a wonderful day.

SOUTH JOHNSTONE

On Sunday September 20, 12 bowlers competed in two games on 3 bowls triples, with the winners on the day going to Shane McInerney and Jeff Winzer closely followed by Albert Holder and Tim Kerrigan.

Social Bowls are held every Sunday with names in by 1pm for a 1:30pm start.

Reminder for the Division 1 Pennant to be played over the weekend of 3rd, 4th and 5th October at Atherton Marlin Coast and Mossman Club.

The third annual Bowls Queensland North versus South Challenge will be held at the Mossman Memorial Bowls Club on October 31 and November 1, 2020. This year’s Challenge will encompass many of the State’s finest players including multiple World Champions Lynsey Clarke and Aron Sherriff along with Australian Jackaroos Chloe Stewart and Barrie Lester. And our own Ben Cribbin, Kiwi Deegan, Denise Charman and Sue Brady along with top players from other districts.

The format for this event will be: Men’s and Women’s teams, 12 players per team, 3 rinks of fours, 3 test series of 21 ends in each game, two games Saturday (1pm and 5pm) and one game Sunday at 9am. More details on the TFNQ Facebook Page and in the Cairns Post in October.

WEST CAIRNS TPI

The weather has improved and the game on Monday proceeded without any interruptions. Nineteen players including a new bowler all enjoyed the facilities that West Cairns Bowls Club provided. At the end of the day the winners were decided as Dawn Evans, Gavin Nicholls and Wally Smith. As usual the cards are called at 1.15pm followed by the game commencing at 1.30pm for a three hour period with time allowed for members to enjoy an afternoon tea of sandwiches and cake provided by our club hostess at a small additional charge to the green fees. Due to the COVID legislation the club is unable to provide hot drinks at the present time. Any player from any club can simply ring our selector Rosemary on mobile 0409 624 623 to record their name on the playing list. All players should be at the club before 1.15pm to ensure the start is not delayed. The playing green is covered from any inclement weather and can be lit when necessary. We rely on the playing of friendly social bowls by all and do not encourage any aggressive play as many of our players are advanced in years.
