Brothers take it to the Max

Real estate agency thrives as team keep the faith

-

WHEN Ray and David Murphy took ownership of RE/MAX Real Estate Services 12 months ago, they had not figured on a world-altering pandemic.

But, in the face of COVID-19, the Murphy brothers have seen the Cairns real estate office remain a force in the RE/MAX network.

The office has settled on almost one sales transaction a day since the ownership change occurred.

And it consistently appears in the top few Australia-wide for RE/MAX and is regularly the top RE/MAX office for North Queensland.

Many RE/MAX Real Estate Services agents are ranked in the Australian network’s top 20 and the office has defied any talk of slow real estate markets.

“In June, for example, our sales volume was the second highest in Australia,” said Ray Murphy. “It takes a lot of transactions to hit that mark. We have sold approximately 335 properties in the past year.”

The Murphy family has a strong history of real estate industry links in the Cairns area and, when Ray and David purchased the business last year, mother Sharyon Murphy joined them.

In August, they opened a second office in Palm Cove, expanding their RE/MAX footprint.

Ray Murphy joined RE/ MAX Real Estate Services more than a decade ago with an eye on owning the business. His brother David, who retired from the Northern Pride last year, was part of his sales team.

RE/MAX is one of Cairns’ most recognised real estate names, both for its reputation for exceptional service and its unique premises.

The repurposed Whitfield wedding chapel sitting on a 1340sq m block is a striking real estate office and auction venue.

“We have had a huge 12 months,” said Ray. “During this time, our RE/MAX Cairns office has had both business and individual achievements and accolades. We are renowned in the global network as a team of gun agents.”

RE/MAX Real Estate Services agents are among the owners’ greatest supporters.

“Because this is such a strong, cohesive business, the change of ownership didn’t impact on the way I conduct my own business,” said Gisele George, “and I’m delighted to be part of such a successful real estate team.”

Joan Robb, who has received more accolades than most in her two-plus decades in real estate, said: “The market has been flat-out for many months.”

Udo Jattke said that through the toughest of times, there had been an extraordinary team effort evident in the business.
