- JACK LAWRIE

A 23-year-old Atherton woman will face court after allegedly ramming a police vehicle at Lake Eacham on Sunday morning.

Police attended a carpark at a Lake Barrine business about 8am after responding to calls from motorists regarding a vehicle being driven erratically up the Gillies Range.

Officers spoke to the female driver, who locked herself in the vehicle, but she allegedly drove off.

Police later found the vehicle on a closed section of Wrights Creek Road at Lake Eacham, with the car cornered against concrete bollards of a closed bridge around 8.40am.

Police allege the driver tried to drive on to the bridge but was unable to do so due to the bollards before allegedly reversing the car into the police 4WD behind her. Police approached the driver, who allegedly kept driving her vehicle towards the police car.

Police said the driver refused to stop, with police smashing the rear passenger window and brandishing a taser.

She was taken into custody without incident, where she was denied police bail.

She is scheduled to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on Monday charged with two counts of obstruct police and one count each of evade police, wilful damage, speeding, unlicensed and disqualified driving, fail to dispose of syringe, drive uninsured and unregistered vehicle, and display false registration plate.

Police said no one was injured and the police 4WD sustained only minor damage thanks to a large bull bar.
