Norweld masters of the pick-up line
A SAVVY Cairns fabrication firm is cashing in on surging demand for imported American Ram pick-up vehicles by providing heavy-duty trays now available as an accessory through 57 new car dealers across the country.
The aftermarket fully welded high-tensile plate trays for the Ram 1500 can also be purchased online after a deal was struck between Norweld Australia, accessory website Upfitter and the Australian Ram distributor Ateco Group.
The partnership has come at an opportune moment following skyrocketing Australian Ram sales, Norweld business development manager Mark Law said.
“We have been talking to them since December last year, I reached out to them and they knew of the Norweld brand and they were looking for a provider that was Australian made,” he said.
“It’s really exciting and they are really excited too because they can offer more Australian made products.”
According to national sales data, Ram shifted 305 units of its 1500 pick-up family in February 2021.
“They have seen massive growth,” he said.
“And we are suppling trays especially for the Rams and you can purchase our tray though the Ram dealers.
“What it does for us is open up our tray to dealers across Australia.
“We have got a nationwide footprint of agents and we also export overseas, our biggest market being in America with slide-on pop-up campers.”
Norweld’s main manufacturing hub in Cairns is supported by workshops in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and the firm has agents in smaller cities across the country, including Darwin, Canberra, Newcastle, Toowoomba, Adelaide and Mildura.
To keep up with demand for Ram products and the booming offshore camper demand, the company has put on new staff and is currently on the hunt for two trades assistants in Cairns, a Brisbane salesperson and a fitter in South Australia.
“We are growing quite rapidly and the majority of our workface is here in Cairns,” Mr Law said.
“It’s really exciting for us to see Americans loving Australian-made products (manufactured) here in Cairns.”
