Rally calls for freedom
A CORE group of about 300 anti-vax protesters took to the Cairns Esplanade on Saturday waving anti-vaccination placards and chanting in protest of the coronavirus vaccine rollout and lockdowns.
Assembling to hear speakers and distribute anti-establishment literature, the Cairns We Stand For Freedom protest was held in unison with 120 similar rallies across the country. Participants are opposed to the wearing of masks, tracking apps, Covid-19 tests, social distancing, QR codes and coronavirus vaccines.
Rally organiser and Leichhardt Informed Medical Options Party candidate Silvia Mogorovich said she was opposing freedoms that had been “eroded” since the pandemic hit.
“Freedom of movement, freedom of choice, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of health,” Ms Mogorovich said.
“I stand here because I retain the right to make decisions over my body.
“I have the right to choose to refuse any medical products or procedures, and I will do until the day I die.”
A spokesman from Queensland Health had previously urged members of the public to not “arm themselves with “dodgy’ facts” relating to Covid vaccines or the vaccine process.
“We can’t make this any clearer: Vaccines. Save. Lives,” he said.
“The vast majority of Queenslanders are sensible enough to know this.
“The Covid-19 vaccines are proven to be safe and effective.”
Queensland Health said the Covid-19 vaccine had been through a rigorous review process by the Therapeutic Goods Association, Australia’s medicines regulator.
