Wren was charged with rebuilding 52 churches in London after the Great Fire in 1666, including what is considered his masterpiece, St Paul’s Cathedral, which was completed in 1710. Another notable building of his is the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
1882 BELA LUGOSI Austrian actor
Lugosi is best remembered for playing the role of Count Dracula in the 1931 film, and for his many roles in other horror films. He was often paired in movies with Boris Karloff.
1934 MICHIKO Empress of Japan
Michiko married Crown Prince Akihito in 1959. She was the first commoner to marry into the Japanese Imperial Family. He elder son, Naruhito, is the current emperor on the Chrysanthemum Throne.
1938 IAIN MACMILLAN
Scottish photographer Macmillan is most famous for taking the cover photograph of The Beatles album, Abbey Road. On August 8, 1969, Macmillan climbed a stepladder about 11.30am and took six photos of The Beatles crossing the street.
1949 VALERY BORZOV Russian athlete
Borzov won gold in the 100m and 200m at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. At the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, he finished third in the 100m behind a pair of Caribbean sprinters.
1950 TOM PETTY American musician
Petty was lead vocalist and guitarist of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, formed in 1976. Hit singles with the Heartbreakers included Refugee and Learning to Fly. After the Heartbreakers, Petty had a successful solo career and a stint with the supergroup the Travelling Wilburys.
