1827 ELLEN G, WHITE American religious leader

White was a co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, along with Joseph Bates and her husband James White. She claimed to have more than 2000 visions and dreams from God.

1876 WILLIS CARRIER American engineer

Carrier is best known for inventing modern airconditi­oning. He invented the first electrical airconditi­oning unit in 1902. In 1915, Carrier founded Carrier Corporatio­n, which manufactur­ed and distribute­d heating, ventilatio­n and airconditi­oning units.

1922 CHARLES M. SCHULZ American cartoonist

Schulz was the creator of the comic strip Peanuts, which featured the characters Charlie Brown and Snoopy. At its height, Peanuts was published daily in 2600 papers in 75 countries and in 21 languages. Schulz drew 17,897 published Peanuts strips.

1939 TINA TURNER American singer

Turner rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before launching a successful career as a solo artist. Her 1984 multiple-platinum album Private Dancer contained the hit What’s Love Got to Do with It, which won her a Grammy.

1952 WENDY TURNBULL Australian tennis player

Turnbull won a total of nine Grand Slam titles, four of them in women’s doubles and five in mixed doubles. She was a three-times Grand Slam singles runner-up.

1970 DAVE HUGHES Australian comedian

Hughes is known for his larrikin personalit­y, drawling Australian accent and deadpan comedic delivery. Hughes graduated from the all-boys Christian Brothers’ College, Warnambool, in 1988, where he was dux of the school.

1981 NATALIE GAUCI Australian singer

Gauci is best remembered for being the winner of the television talent series Australian Idol in 2007. Her winner’s single, Here I Am, reached number two on the ARIA Singles Chart. Gauci’s follow-up album reached number seven.
