1857 JOSEPH CONRAD Polish author

Conrad’s novels include Heart of Darkness, Lord Jim, and Nostromo. Many of his novels and short stories drew on his experience­s in the French and British merchant navies.

1883 TIBBY COTTER Australian cricketer

Cotter played in 21 Test matches for Australia between 1904 and 1912. He took 89 wickets at an average of 28.64. Cotter served with the First AIF and was killed in the mounted charge of the 4th Light Horse Brigade at Beersheba in 1917.

1948 OZZY OSBOURNE English musician

Osbourne rose to prominence in the 1970s as the lead singer of Black Sabbath. He was fired from the band in 1979 due to alcohol and drug problems, but Osbourne forged a successful solo career, releasing 12 albums.

1960 JULIANNE MOORE American actor

Moore has collected an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy Awards. Her film credits include Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, Still Alice and Crazy, Stupid, Love.

1968 BRENDAN FRASER American actor

Fraser is perhaps best known for his role as Rick O’Connell in The Mummy trilogy. But he has had leading roles in numerous comedy and fantasy movies, including Airheads and Monkeybone. Dramatic roles include the films Mrs Winterbour­ne and Gimme Shelter.

1976 MARK BOUCHER South African cricketer

Boucher holds the record for the most Test dismissals by a wicketkeep­er, with 532 catches and a total of 555 dismissals. He played a total of 147 Test matches and 295 ODIs for South Africa during his career. Boucher’s highest Test score was 125.

1981 BRIAN BONSALL

American actor Bonsall is best remembered for his role as Andy Keaton in the sitcom Family Ties. He also had a role as Alexander Rozhenko on Star Trek: The Next generation from 1992 until 1994.
