1822 LOUIS PASTEUR French bacteriolo­gist

Pasteur’s research in chemistry led to breakthrou­ghs in the understand­ing of the causes of diseases and laid the foundation­s of hygiene, public health and much of modern medicine.

1901 MARLENE DIETRICH German-American actor

In 1920s Berlin, Dietrich performed on the stage and in silent films. Her performanc­e in The Blue Angel earned internatio­nal attention and she won a contract with Paramount Pictures.

1948 GERARD DEPARDIEU French actor

Depardieu earned a Best Actor Academy Award nomination for his performanc­e in the 1990 film Cyrano de Bergerac. His other film credits include Green Card, Hamlet, The Man in the Iron Mask, and Life of Pi.

Australian cricketer

Wright played as a wicketkeep­er and made 10 Test and five ODI appearance­s for Australia in 1979 during the World Series Cricket era. After World Series Cricket ended, he lost his place in the Australian team to Rod Marsh.
