Home renos and travel top our new year wishlist

HOME renovation­s and travel are among key dream goals for cashed-up Australian­s this year, according to a new survey.

About 44 per cent of the nearly 2000 respondent­s of fintech lender Plenti’s Dream Index survey highlighte­d 2022 would be about building up at home.

Non-bank lender Plenti conducted its survey on consumers’ financial goals in 2022 in December.

It also found 33 per cent respondent­s intended to consolidat­e their debts this year and despite the pandemic uncertaint­y, 28 per cent are saving up for internatio­nal travel and 26 per cent want to go on domestic holidays.

Majority of those surveyed (97.4 per cent) had clear financial new year goals.

About 49 per cent of them are looking to save more while of the 41 per cent wanted to make a splash on postponed big-ticket items.

Of the big-spenders, 16 per cent identified a car or holiday as a major purchases.

Plenti chief executive Daniel Foggo (inset) said the survey results reflected the continued resilience of Australian consumers despite the ongoing impact of the global coronaviru­s pandemic.

“Our track record this year has told us a lot about the Australian consumer and their desire for a great quality of life.

“Their demand for loans to help bring a vast array of dreams to life has shown just how resilient consumer desire to get on with life has been throughout 2021, regardless of the various lockdowns around the country.”

Fintech lender Plenti is targeting a $5bn loan book by 2025 after hitting the $1bn mark in November on booming car and personal loans.
