Food is soup-er tasty

CHEF’S CREATIONS WARM THE COCKLES AND SOOTHE THE SOUL

- PETER CARRUTHERS

LOVERS of good Asian food have been making tracks from all over the city to share the passion of chef Kyaw Nyein Chan who has been busy in the kitchen of a new fusion restaurant.

The Best Soup the Best Food, specialising in food from Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and China has just opened on Lake St to rave reviews.

Formally of the Golden Boat Chinese Restaurant and Pho Viet Vietnamese Noodle Bar, chef Chan has branched out on his own for the first time to open the restaurant.

“Soup is my heart,” he said. “I know someone, he lives very far in Gordonvale and he comes and tests (the food) every week.

“He comes to (try) chicken stir-fry one day (and other dishes the next day.) He comes all that way to (eat) my food.

“Whoever comes to test my food, I get 100 per cent good comments.”

Mr Chan said he had created recipes that require precise weighing of ingredients to ensure consistency for diners every time they visit, including the special beef soup that requires eight hours of cooking.

Other menu specialties include chicken chilli lemon stirfry, deep fried chicken wings with special sauce and Spanish stir-fried beef with rice.

Trading since December 13 Mr Chan said it had been a little difficult attracting large customer volumes with the current Covid situation but he believed the global fusion restaurant in the heart of the Cairns CBD to have great potential.

“I have mixed traditional (cuisine) from about four or five countries,” he said.

“So my formula is really exact, it’s always the same and never changing.

“But it’s very hard to find really good customers to come and test my food,” he said.

The Best Soup the Best Food is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner at 35A Lake St (close to the corner of Spence St).
