‘CONVENIENT’ TRUTH EVEN WITH BEST PROTECTION

-

CAIRNS-BASED pharmacist Trent Twomey got into some hot water on Thursday declaring it would be “convenient” for his family to catch Covid in the coming weeks. The national president of the Pharmacy Guild was rapped over the knuckles for the comments by the AMA for not setting a very good example.

Its vice-president Dr Chris Moy said the comments were not responsible while officials were trying to encourage people to get boosters and to ease pressure on hospitals.

But was Mr Twomey really saying anything that many of us are (not so) secretly wondering ourselves?

“There is no good time to get Covid, but if my family have to catch it, now would be a good time,” Mr Twomey was quoted as saying.

Bluntly – and hypothetically – it is a good time; if you’re vaccinated.

As life returns to normal with the dropping of restrictions, who wants to catch Covid as the busy school year ramps up or you finally get the chance to go somewhere further than Fishery Falls for your precious annual leave?

Covid has done what it likes with this country for two years, it would be nice to be able to set a clock and get a bit of control back.

Mr Twomey has done everything he can to protect himself and his family and in doing so, for his community.

In his role as guild president, he’s also played a big part in keeping Aussies from the worst effects of the virus and locally has made himself available to provide clarity and debunk myths.

It’s very doubtful Mr Twomey wants he or his family to get Covid at all, but with cases of Omicron exploding the odds are most of us will at some point.

It would be more shocking if the pharmacy guild president wasn’t as confident of vaccinations as he so obviously is. Jennifer Spilsbury Editor
