Notice the political left in Australia unanimously support Ukraine (M. Henderson, CP, 13/10), while conservative Aussies prefer to consider historical facts (P. Senior, CP, 12/10)? Mr Senior is correct, the citizens of Crimea did vote to return to Russia, as did the four breakaway regions of Ukraine in recent weeks. They clearly prefer Putin to Zelensky.

Re: Peter Senior (CP, 12/10), to suggest that any election or referendum in Russia or Russian-claimed territory is fair is a bit beyond the pale.

Eight months after the historic floods from Maryborough to Sydney, major flood warnings and evacuation orders are now in place from NSW down to Tasmania. The monster levels of rainfall this year are unprecedented, and yet there are still some ostriches who claim climate change is fake news.

Re: Editor Insurance Costs (CP, 13/10). I received a letter from my health insurer (one of the largest non-profit insurers) advising that my insurance will increase by 7 per cent in November. However the same insurer advises that the average policy increase from November will be 2.75 per cent. I emailed them asking why my policy has increased by 7 per cent and their reply was because of where I live and potential future claims is how they calculate their individual policy increases. I’m in the top hospital cover and haven’t made a claim in three years.

I had to laugh at NASA saying “No known asteroid larger than 140m in size ... has a significant chance of hitting Earth for the next 100 years” (CP, 13/10). These are the same people who “lost” the technology to take men to the moon and who have been wrong in everything they’ve ever said about “climate change”.

Why is “power” included in the inflation equation? I had thought it was worked out on our excess spending – holidays, coffee, Macca’s and too many shoes. But no, it includes essential spending – electricity and fuel. Can anyone shed light on this? Mel, Ravenshoe

Two points on mortgage stress.

Firstly, the RBA said before the May election that this would not happen. Secondly, the United Australia Party predicted it would happen and laid out a plan to protect homeowners.

But the UAP didn’t get many votes because people “didn’t like Clive” and failed to understand that he’s rich precisely because he understands economics far better than ScoMo or Albo.

It’s OK to bid for an Olympics that nobody else wanted. It’s OK to give millions of taxpayers’ money to the red carpet set. It’s OK to buy seven new jets. Here’s another chance for you premier to go and sit at the Cairns Base Hospital wait around all day with many age groups all waiting to see the only eye specialist here who works in private practice. The QLD public deserves better.

Two hundred thousand outstanding robo-debts have been wiped clean by Labor. How about an apology from Dutton and his mates for putting people through stress and depression with no human oversight.

FNQ is set to cop a drenching with La Nina predicted to make its third straight uninvited visit to the east coast this summer.” (CP, 12/10). What’s the word “uninvited” doing there? Weather is never “invited”. Regardless of what profiteering climate alarmists say, weather has nothing to do with trace gases.

Time is determined by the observer’s longitude and the position of the sun in its arc across the sky. Those who want an extra hour of daylight in the evening can simply get up an hour earlier.
