Norths tip to take T20 final

- JAKE GARLAND

ONE club will complete a perfect premiership when the Cricket Far North 3rd Grade T20 final is played under lights at Griffiths Park on Friday.

Both Norths Blue and Mareeba finished with identical records – two convincing wins and a round three forfeit – on their way to the top of their respective pools.

Mareeba captain Grant Hanlon anointed Norths as favourites after their massive 88-run win in the 35-over format last month, but is looking forward to the challenge.

“The game will be won in the field, take your opportunity with the ball when presented,” Hanlon said.

“We’ve got some good things building, it will be a good reward for the club.

“They (Norths) are red hot favourites after giving us a touch up during the third grade season, so we have a bit of work to do.”

Grant will line up alongside his son William, and hopes he will get the chance to lift the trophy after the final ball.

“It is a good thing being able to play with him,” he said.

Norths batsman Wayne Wood thinks his team has what it takes to bring the premiership home.

“It is a really good team we have, everyone is really jelling well and that is what makes a team when everyone is working together,” Wood said.

“The guys are really passionate about cricket and really excited and keen (for the final). Some of our players are from a Nepalese background and the passion from them brings the team closer and gets everyone enjoying the game.

“(It’s) been about six or seven years since I last played cricket and I am really enjoying it at the moment.”
