Manunda grand old dame on market

- BRONWYN FARR

A GRAND old dame of a home has survived surrounding development to stand as a testament to the past and now it could be yours.

The lovingly restored three-bedroom home on a huge 1206sq m block is on the market for only the third time since it was built in the 1940s.

The property at 18 Hoare St, Manunda is for sale via expressions of interest with Karl Latham of Twomey Schriber, who sold the property in 2014 at auction.

“It was in original condition, but I could see the potential,” Mr Latham said.

“So much care, love, time and attention has been spent restoring this amazing property.”

He said it was built by Albert Ruttiman of Ravenshoe, who had an interest in timber and used silky oak, black bean and other hardwood rainforest timbers throughout the house.

“The house was a real head turner in those days and many locals remember it well,” Mr Latham said.

Mr Latham said it was originally a block of about an acre and had a swimming pool and tennis court, but had been subdivided.

It has art deco features throughout, from the stucco exterior finish to the original plaster cornice and ornate ceilings.

The original chandelier has been cleaned, rewired and restored to hang above the dining room table.

It is surrounded by immaculate gardens with mature trees, and a bore-fed automatic sprinkler system.

“When I originally sold the home the black bean hardwood floors had been hidden and protected for decades under shag pile carpet,” Mr Latham said.

“They are a rare feature.” There is custom-made leaf pattern security screening on both verandas.

Underneath the home is enclosed and ripe with potential.

The kitchen has stone bench tops and a 900mm gas cooker.

The bathroom won an award.

It has a four car extra high carport.
