FNQGA Pennants Round 8

The Pennants boys travelled to Mossman to play a tough competitor in Gordonvale. Unfortunately, all three grades went down, with Trent, Caine, Luke & Ned the only winners.

After the result last Sunday, it is confirmed that our A Grade Team has made it to the Semi Finals! The first time the boys have made it since the IGC returned to Pennants in 2016.

This week we travel to El Arish, to play Halfmoon Bay.

Presentation Night Rescheduled

Our presentation night has been rescheduled to the 28th of January, as many of our members are away & the trophies were delayed.

Travelling IGC Members

Congratulations to Glynis who won the Atherton FNQ Vets round in convincing style! Glynis shot 42 points for her Division, 10 points clear of the next lady & even beat the boys. Well done Glynis!

IGC Rules & Etiquette

Last week’s Quiz

During a stroke round, Streety, Wom & Marc had an organised tee time of 12pm. Marc arrived at 1202pm after Streety & Wom had teed off, but just in time to play in the correct order.

What is the ruling?

A: There is no penalty.

B: Marc is disqualified.

C: Marc gets a 2 stroke penalty

Answer: C. As Marc arrived and was ready to play within five minutes after his starting time, he gets a penalty of 2 strokes for failure to be ready to play at the start time established by the committee. If Marc had arrived more than 5 minutes after his starting time, the penalty would have been disqualification.

This week’s Quiz

For relief without penalty to be available, temporary water must be visible before the player takes their stance.

MILLAA MILLAA

Saturday the 26th was the first day of the Classic Weekend of Golf sponsored by Central Tyre Service.

Today was a 4 ball Medley Ambrose and attracted teams from all over the far north, we decided to trial having two four ball teams playing together as we found out on our last big (huge) weekend some players were unhappy with the delays.

We hoped this idea would have a double positive result, one, players would be moving all the time at a very acceptable pace and secondly there was a better chance for members and visitors to socialise during play.

From the comments at the end of the day (with no negative ones) I think we might have scored well on both counts.

The clear winner today with a nett 50 was the team of Ash Healy, Allen Hapgood, Dave Hay and Ruth Cooper, well done that’s a great score.

Second on 53 was Kelvin Groves, Dave

Welch Gary Soper and Shane Soper, only three quarters of a stroke from them was the McEwan family of Tom, Emily and Abby, their fourth player was Brian Hughes.

Visitors from Cairns Matt Bolton, Scott Webb, John Tolentini and Adrian Nelson finished one stroke further back in fourth. The Ravenshoe team headed by Shane Escott was in fifth and Graham Murray, Bob Collyer, Don McHardie and Ross Ellen were in sixth.

The McEwan family and Brian Hughes took the prize for NTP on 1/10 and the team of Mark Twomey, Gary Loberwein, Gary

Sinclair and Brian Cole were the winners on 5/14.

SUNDAY 27th.

There was a little overnight rain, which, if anything improved the almost perfect conditions for the second day of Central

Tyre Service Weekend.

This was a stroke event with players starting as per the time sheet with everyone away by ten o’clock and all of us back in the clubhouse before the thunderstorm hit just about 2.30.

The mens winners were, Best 18 hole gross Peter Fox with a 75.

Best 18 holes nett Paul Foster with a 66 won on a C.B.

A Grade nett was Dave Morrison with 73. B Grade nett was Graham Murray who lost the C.B.

C Grade nett was Wayne Norris with a 69. Senior nett was Bob Collyer with a 67.

The Bradmans prize went to Rod Armstrong. The Ladies best 18 gross was Alicia English, Sue Job had the best 18 nett with a 75. Hipas Donald had the best B grade nett with 80 and Janeen Smith was the runner-up with

81. The ladies longest drive winner was Alicia English and the three mens winners were, A grade Lee Heike, B grade Leo Lenard and the C grade winner was Damian Bowe.

Nearest to the pins were Ash Healy on 1/10 and Gary Soper for 5/14.
