MOSSMAN AND DISTRICT RIFLE CLUB

An unwelcome visitor in the form of Mr Mirage harassed all eight shooters for much of the day, and a tricky left to right breeze threw most shots out to the right for our 300 metre range. F Std this week, Norbert Schmidt started out with 55.3 points, Bill Kromwyk struggled through, finding a 3 and a couple of 4’s, lowering his tally to 50.2, Brendan Delaney away next shot 52.1, the mirage was horrendous by this stage. New shooter Jeremy read the conditions well to come up with 53.1. John Brentson shot next and finished with 48 points, Tom Baetscher finding a 3 and a 4 washed out his end result to finalise 50 points, Carl Read followed on with a 49 flat, the X ring eluding him on this range and too many 4’s to boot. Sporting Hunter class saw Wayne Walsh produce a great perfect score of 50.5 well done. In the second detail in F Std Schmidt strung a few X’s together at the start, then Mr Mirage spoilt his party and Norbert finished with 58.4, still a good score. Kromwyk steadied and settled into a nice 63.4 Delaney, reading the conditions well, came in with 61.3. Brentson bettered to finish with 58.0, Baetscher with a 53.1, Read improved slightly to finish with 57 points and Jeremy only fired 8 shots on this range for 39 points. Sporting Hunter, Walsh did well again with a very tidy 53.6.

F Std:

Norbert Schmidt 113.7

Bill Kromwyk 113.6

Brendan Delaney 113.4

John Brentson 106.0

WEST CAIRNS TPI

The expected hot and steamy weather we had been expecting was replaced by a cooling breeze which made conditions most pleasant on the green last Monday.

We also welcomed beck a couple from Northern Ireland who have visited us before COVID quite a few years ago. It is expected they will be in Australia for a few months.

They were welcomed by the ten local players who played today. The winning team was led by Max Harker, supported by Ken Boughton and Val Fallon and they were awarded a small cash prize.

We only have a couple more games next month before we have our end of year function and a short recess before starting again in January. As usual we are seeking any bowler who enjoys social mixed bowls that are played on a carpet green and are protected from bad weather spoiling the game. All that is required is to contact our selector Rosemary on 0409624623 before 11.00am next Monday to obtain full information. Also available is a sheet inside the West Cairns Bowls Club building for recording your name, mobile phone contact, position normally played and name of your home club if visiting. We prefer regulation bowls attire if available and have club bowls available. Cards are called at 1.15pm with start of play at 1.30pm, and afternoon tea break provided in the green fee and play finishing at 4.30pm. All players should be at the club when the cards are called. Even though our name may suggest an association with the armed services this no longer applies as all of the original members have passed on making our club now a Memorial club so everyone is most welcome on any Monday afternoon.
