SEAHAWKS, IVANHOES TO TURN IT ON

- MATTHEW MCINERNEY

YARRABAH Seahawks will welcome an enthusiastic Ivanhoes outfit when they play at their home ground for the first time on Sunday.

The Seahawks’ round 2 clash with the Knights will be shown live on the Cairns Post website this Sunday as our Match of the Round.

One fixture per round will be livestreamed exclusively by KommunityTV throughout the season, allowing subscribers an opportunity to watch as many as four games a week whether they’re at home, or on the road through the Cairns Post website.

And on Sunday, viewers will be in for a treat as a club known for its all-out attacking style faces off with a gritty defensive unit which brought former NRL star Josh Dugan to the FNQRL.

The Seahawks enjoyed a 44-34 win against Tully

Tigers to kick off their Agrade campaign with a win.

Five-eighth Zac Mossman was praised for his form, the fleet-footed playmaker scoring two tries in the 10point triumph at Tully. It was an opportunity lost for Tully, who held a healthy lead at one stage but lacked experience at what was a crucial, momentum-shifting time. Ivanhoes kicked off the season with the first game, with Dugan’s class proving the difference between the Knights and Innisfail.

It was Ivanhoes who ended the Leprechauns’ run in the finals last year, and that is how the script stayed in the first round as Dugan played a key role in multiple tries.

KommunityTV’s coverage will feature all three grades, kicking off with the under-18s at noon.

Doubles to Will Broughton and Chad Knowles led the Knights to a 36-18 win against Innisfail in the U18s.

In reserve grade, Lewis Miles and Samuel Mandeakali scored doubles as Ivanhoes piled on seven tries in disposing of Innisfail in a high-scoring clash.

Yarrabah lost heavily in both reserves and under-18s to Tully, but will be out to make amends when they return to Jilara Oval.
