Friends mourn Cairns realtor

- Isaac McCarthy

A Trinity Beach man and former Cairns realtor has been remembered by family, friends and former colleagues as a true family man after he died in a tragic road crash on Thursday.

Ralph Westera, 69, was riding his motorcycle on Ray Jones Dr in Portsmith when he collided with a parked ute. Paramedics transported him to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition but he died shortly after.

Mr Westera was remembered by his wife Pam as a loving and generous father, grandfather and husband. “He will be remembered by his family as someone who lived life to the fullest,” Ms Westera said.

“His zest and drive for life was immeasurable and infectious. We will miss him dearly.”

Mr Westera was a former realtor at Quaid Real Estate.

Managing director Stacey Quaid and his wife Kimmi said Mr Westera was a loyal and trusted friend.

“Those who were able to call him a friend knew they had a friend for life,” Mr Quaid said.

“He was a larger-than-life character, capable at whatever he turned his hand to and possessed a generosity that often came from left field for such a no-nonsense character.

“He knew everybody and would be the first to give a hand at the drop of a hat.

“Ralph spoke of his adventures across the world including motorcycle riding through some of the most rugged and remote locations across the Middle East and beyond.

“He is sadly missed.”

Sales manager Tom Quaid said Mr Westera sold property as far north as the Torres Strait.

“There was no messing around with Ralph. You always knew where you stood with him,” he said.
