IMAGINE running a very long race on a hot day.

That was our Cross Country on Friday March 24.

The boys went first for each age group and the girls went second.

We had to line up in our house colours and wait for the teacher to blow the whistle.

One lap was 800m. The track had cones to show where to run.

Teachers and parents waited at some of the cones to encourage us to keep running.

We started on the back oval, then ran around a big tree. Then we went across the bridge to the Police Beat then ran back across the bridge again.

Prep to Year 2 had to do one lap while Year 3 to Year 4 had to do two laps. The 11 and 12year-olds had to do three laps.

When you finished, you were given a ticket to show your place. Each person were awarded a point for competing in the race. The top 10 in each race got ribbons and more points for their team colour.

Everyone, including the ones in 1st to 10th place, received an icy pole.

After the races, all the students went to the hall for the presentation of awards. The age champions were awarded a medal for coming first. Then the winning team was announced.

McSweeny won with an outstanding number of points (658). McKenna was 2nd with 394 points. In 3rd place was McAuley with 374 points. In last place was MacKillop with 323 Points.

The McSweeny house captains received a big trophy. They took the trophy to the students who won and took a photograph.

“It felt kind of hard to run because my shoulder started hurting, so I felt really happy when my team won,” student Azaria Canning said.
