Survivor golf clash ‘closest’

- Jake Garland

IT has been described by founder of Survivor Golf Dave Cameron as the ‘closest championship yet’ as two more pairs Far North Queensland golfers will head to the play off tournament.

Cameron said it was amazing how close this year is when you look at the winners.

“All the winners so far have hit between 10-12 under par,” Cameron said.

“And the rounds are close as well, teams win with 10 under but multiple teams have finished second with 9 under.

“I am really excited to see how this tournament ends, I can already see it coming right down to a play off.”

In the latest round of Survivor Golf, the fastest growing two-person Ambrose teed off at Millaa Millaa Golf Club.

Two back-to-back rounds went ahead on Saturday with a morning round and an afternoon round, with the winners becoming the seventh and eighth qualifiers for the Drummond Golf Survivor Series.

The morning winners, known as Lastminute.com registered for the morning event at 5.30 Saturday morning for a tee off at 8am. Craig Ilsley and Paul Forrester paired perfectly with Forrester’s drive helping the pair get to the green and Ilsley using his precise short game skills to win.

The afternoon winners, known as Millaa’s Gorillas, made up of Mark Twomey and Ashley Healy, birdied the final two holes including a 25ft put from Healy to earn themselves the Golden Ticket and booking themselves into the Port Douglas Grand Final.

They become fifth and sixth Far North qualifiers from eight rounds and will join Young Guns (Jack Roberts and Couper Smith), Shrek and Wreak (Callum Jones and Peter Brown), Bid Goodies (Kyjel Spencer and Frank Bidgood) and Monster Quaddie (Luke Peters and Trent Mann) in December for the grand final.
