ON COUNCILLORS WAIVING A MCLEOD ST DEVELOPMENT’S INFRASTRUCTURE FEES DESPITE THE DECISION BEING INCOMPATIBLE WITH EXISTING POLICY.

The problem is a lack of creativity at the leadership level. Rather than asking how can we make better decisions with what we have, they just pass the cost of their abysmal decisions on to us. There is so much wrong here and it all stems from a lack of accountability.

Richard Ingham

Waiving of developer fees is a great thing. It can make the difference between a viable project or not. Everyone complaining about not enough housing needs to understand that yes developers can make good money but it is a very risky business, paying an extra $25k per dwelling in fees can mean the project doesn’t go ahead or that cost gets passed on to the end buyer.

Andy Martin

I would have thought rich developers would have to pay because they make so much money.

ON THE STATE GOVERNMENT CONSIDERING ON-THE-SPOT SUSPENSIONS FOR SPEEDING DRIVERS

Speeding fines are a nice easy revenue earner which is why the state government has targeted this. An easier earner is what they are doing to the Kuranda (Cash Cow) Range.

Lance Robb

Speeding finds are a completely voluntary contribution.

ON THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND SCIENCE SUGGESTING NATURAL PREDATORS COULD HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DECAPITATION OF A GIANT CROCODILE AT COW BAY.

It’s such a disappointing statement from the department. It makes us wonder whether a physical investigation was actually carried out by a suitably qualified person because even the layman can see what has occurred here.

Chris Mitchell

Perhaps it was a natural process of elimination. A bigger croc snapped its head off.
