Once again, reports come in about the Barrier Reef, best ever, most coral cover ever. This can and should be promoted by all tourism bodies and the government. However we have negative reports by so called researchers, scamming grants to sustain their existence.

What’s the go with the “truck and trailer” thingo starting to appear in the NRL. Attacking players are now ganging up to push the ball runner as he is being tackled. Someone’s going to get seriously hurt. I’d also like to know if Souths player Jed Cartwright is related to Jed Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies because dud things seem to happen around him. GTHO, Manunda

Re: Michael Cooper (CP, 29/4), I think you’ve mixed up your levels of government. And yes, there is a problem.

So much for Entsch’s grand preelection promises to stop insurance companies rorting homeowners. My annual premium has just been jacked up another $800. As if any politicians do anything about insurance rorts. Rex, Edmonton

The LNP is blaming Palaszczuk for Queensland’s rise in the cost of living.

Come on, does anyone really believe Crisafulli is going wave a magic wand and reduce interest rates, rent, groceries, petrol and electricity. Pauline, Palm Cove

Re: Cairns CBD itinerants. Description as, “a complicated social problem” is not correct. Nothing complicated – arrest them, prosecute them, lock them up. If they do it again, do it all again but for longer. No excuses. I think it’s still against the law isn’t it? Stu, Brinsmead

The Premier told us, “if we build it they’ll come”. We the Queensland taxpayers then paid out $200m to build the Wellcamp quarantine facility. No one came. Construction was a political decision targeting the then federal government. Imagine a $200m diversionary program to address youth crime, or homelessness, or ambulance ramping. But no, just another $200m wasted by an inept government. Rick, Redlynch

I noticed on Anzac Day (I’ve heard it before but didn’t take it in) that our national anthem says that “We are one”. If that’s so, how can we have the Voice. Either the Voice goes or we change our anthem. Rod, Cairns

Do sports people not know the Australian national anthem? Most stand in line like statues when it is played. Lift your game, enthuse vocally, be proud to be Australian and show it.

Great work FNQRL to bring the Foley Shield games back to Cairns after so long without it. A good weekend of footy, well run and presented. Congratulations to Jono Zangrande and the men’s team winning the shield.
