Another good roll-up of 10 players for social bowls on Thursday. Winners were Dan McCulloch & Darryl Jensen, runner-up Bill Price & Ron Omodei.

Names in by 1pm for 1.30 start on Thursday & Sunday for social bowls.

Sunday social bowls attracted 12 players, winners were Ken, Natasha & George, runner-up were Tayla, Judy & Luke. We played Silkwood Club at home on Saturday, first game in div 3 pennants. A few showers were a nuisance, but we managed to outplay them during the rain. Upcoming games: Saturday, May 13 we travel to Innisfail for our next pennant game. Players selected are Jim A, George, Bill, Dan, Gavin, Ron, Les H, & Darryl.

Ladies Bowls: Social bowls for Thursday, May 4 winners were unknown. Ladies put names in by 1pm for a 1.30pm start on Thursday, May 11.

Ladies A Singles Final played last

V1 - CCPE01Z01M­A week with Elaine Whitehead jumping to 10-1 lead and Lou Pomroy fighting back to trail 15-14. Elaine then pulled clear to win 2519. A good final played by both. Men’s Championsh­ip Bowls: Club Pairs game had Wayne Hewitt and Matt Norrie defeat Michael Wilson and Mark Kors 27-12.

Club Fours final will be played by Frank Obah’s team and Lyle Braggins team in the final at a date to be arranged. Keep your eyes open for details. Should be a great game.

Bruno Destro Shield. 10 clubs competed last weekend with Edge Hill successful winning all games.

Mixed Social Bowls results for Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3 winners were not recorded. Saturday, May 6 Social Bowls winners were Russell Lamb and Peter Whitehead. Runner-up: David Wootton and Darren Curry. Saturday Men’s Pennant season commences May 13 with division 1 away to West Cairns. Division 2 away to Marlin Coast and division 3 take on Brothers Edmonton at Edge Hill. Good Bowling all. Upcoming bowls event at Edge Hill is the Great Barrier Reef Masters Games. May 25-28. Reminder that age group sections have been removed from play conditions.

Now anyone 35+ can enter any event with relatives or friends. GBR Masters Games events require nomination online so try the website to register. Entries close May 20 so be quick.

Mossman has two entered teams to play in the BPL Preliminar­y Cup to be hosted by Marlin Coast Bowls Club on Sunday 14th May. Best of luck to all players.

In a fortnight’s time, the Final will be played between Leonie Sims and Pam Widdows. Looking forward to a good match. Raffle winner first prize was Margaret Heffernan. Second prize was Gloria Geeves.

WEST CAIRNS

Friday Scroungers: Winner for the night were Mal Taylor with Tanya Spregnel runner-up.

Tuesday afternoon: The winning team was Ray, Mac and Wayne with 27pts and the runner-up team was Richo, Rick Radinga and John Wilcox with 23pts and +12 in the second game. The jackpot was not won on the day.

Thirsty Thursday: The best players for the day were John Greenway, Kevin Lee, Dawn and Edna. These players are showing promise and should be ready to play in future competitio­ns.

Sunday: The winning team was D. Nicholls, Don Lowe and Maurie with 20pts and the runner-up team was Stan Weston, Glen Donovan and T’mor with 18pts and +3 in the second game. Jackpot was not won.

Club Championsh­ip Season 2023 – A Singles games played were won by Steve Howells 25pts def Bill Berger 14pts. In the other singles game Allan Paraha 25pts defeated Eddie Czarnecki 16pts after a close game up to 16-all. In the A pairs game it was won by Steve Wilson and Phil Buntain 28pts defeated Peter Mathews and Ted Hamilton 9pts. The other game was the Mens 4s Final, won by Kevin Richardson, Allan Paraha, M Hetherton and Johno Johnston 21pts defeating Scot Carolan, Phil Buntain, Alby Radford and Steve Smith 16 pts. Congratula­tions to all the teams that participat­ed in the 4s competitio­n and the final winners. Skips to check with Helen to confirm the available times to play.

WEST CAIRNS TPI

Seventeen bowlers enjoyed the pleasant conditions at the West Cairns Bowls Club last Monday afternoon playing social mixed bowls on the covered carpet green.

Winners drawn at the end of the day were Kay Hellmuth,

Dot Kensdale and John Frisch. Next week the committee meeting will be held at 10.30am when arrangemen­ts for the following month activities will be discussed.

It is important that all of the committee attend.

The ladies of the club attending will also have a free drink available as it is the day after Mother’s Day.

Cards will be called at 1.15pm prior to commenceme­nt of play at 1.30pm. Names of players should be in the hands of our selector by 11am and can be phoned to mobile 0409 624 623 or recorded on the sheet available at the club.

After a break for afternoon tea provided as part of the green fee, play will conclude at 4.30pm when the winning team will be drawn.

A raffle will be available prior to play commencing offering a small prize for the winner.

Play is non-competitiv­e and very sociable. We encourage any bowler wishing to join us to come and see a game on any Monday afternoon.
