Edge Hill United basking in the limelight

-

EDGE Hill United are enjoying life at the top of both FQ Far North QPL tables, though the Tigers’ women’s team is locked in a fascinating duel with Leichhardt Lions White.

The men’s team have opened an eight-point lead atop their ladder after a 3-1 win against Stratford, which was aided by a comeback 2-2 draw between Innisfail United and Mareeba United.

Innisfail United led the Bulls twice in the match week eight clash at Steve Corica Oval, but on both occasions Mareeba United were able to find an equaliser to ensure the points were shared.

While they both lost ground on the runaway Tigers, who have now won 13 straight games across all competitions in 2023, they maintain their spots in second (Mareeba) and third (Innisfail) on the table.

Leichhardt and Marlin Coast kept their spots in fourth and fifth after wins against Southside Comets and Redlynch Strikers.

Goals from Josh Mulla and Dylan Gawronski ensured the Lions beat rivals Comets in the Southside Derby at Walker Road Sporting Precinct.

Marlin Coast thumped the Strikers 5-0 at Calanna Park, and will be keen to keep that goalscoring form when they host Innisfail United.

In the Premier Women’s league, Edge Hill’s 4-0 win against Marlin Coast cemented their grip on first while Southside Halleys extended their unbeaten run to four games with a 4-1 win against Redlynch.

Leichhardt White remained unbeaten with a 4-0 win against Douglas Dragons at Jeff Pezzutti Park, Leichhardt Red beat Stratford 2-1 and Innisfail United beat Southside Levi 3-0 in the other games.
