TIGERS FIGHT

INJURY-HIT TULLY SET FOR BATTLE AGAINST RIVALS

- Matthew McInerney

Tully Tigers might be short on troops, but there will be no lack of fight as they head up the Bruce Hwy to face Innisfail in the FNQRL’s rivalry round.

The Tigers are coming off a 28-26 win against Atherton but will be without young guns

Cohen Emmi and Cameron Nelson for the round 6 clash with their most hated rivals.

Tully player-coach Colin Wilkie said his side would miss several other players, including himself who is in doubt to line up at Callendar Park, but those left will take up the fight.

“It’s probably not ideal to be missing two 17-year-olds, they have been two of our better players in recent weeks,” Wilkie said.

“It leaves us a bit light on in the dummy half position but we will make do.”

Innisfail’s attack has found its bite in recent weeks, combining to score 142 points in their past three games as they flew up the ladder.

The Leprechauns have leapt into fourth on the ladder on the back of their outstanding forward pack, which Wilkie said could be the best across any north Queensland league.

“They have a huge forward pack with a lot of class,” he said. “There’s no better forward pack in the FNQRL. Probably no better … in north Queensland.

“They still have that power game but they’re also playing some footy on the edge, which is different to how Leon (Hallie) has coached in the past.

“We have to have a big improvement on where we have been. While we won last week, it was probably one of our worst performances.”

The game will be shown live via KommunityTV, with under-18s kicking off at 3pm.
