VW to release grand Canyon

-

THE latest Volkswagen Amarok Canyon is expected to be available in Australia soon. For the second time in its run, the Volkswagen Amarok is getting the Canyon special-edition treatment.

It is based on the Amarok’s Trendline trim, which means it will carry a host of new amenities.

Some of the most noticeable upgrades given to the Amarok Canyon include a choice of three different body colours — Deep Black, Reflex Silver and Copper Orange — as well as an exterior that now has a matte-black roll cover, a load area protective coating and a set of 19-inch Cantera alloy wheels.

Inside, the Amarok Canyon’s cabin is a picture of high-class amenities, a surprising move considering that it is more well-suited to get down and grimy.

The cabin not only has heated leather seats, but those seats have also been dressed in fine Nappa and Vienna leather.

Likewise, the steering wheel also gets the fine-leather treatment with orange stitching, while the rest of the cabin boasts of a six-inch colour touchscreen display, Bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors, and even privacy glass.

The Canyon is available with a 132kW 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 400Nm of torque from 1500rpm when matched with a six-speed manual transmission and 420Nm from 1750rpm with an eight-speed auto.

The Amarok will have smoked tail-light lenses, body-coloured under-bumper panels, contrasting black wheel-arches liners, black ‘rollover’ bars, black side-sill protection bars, a black rear bumper, black door-handles and two-tone black side decals with Canyon lettering

As in all versions of the Amarok, which comes with a five-star safety rating, the Canyon comes standard with twin front and side head/thorax airbags, traction/stability control, front seatbelt pretensioners, five height-adjustable head restraints and five three-point seatbelts. Like all Amarok 4x4s, there’s also an anti-lock braking system with off-road mode and hill descent control.

The Canyon’s 1555mm long, 1620mm wide cargo tray remains unchanged, offering the same 2.52 sq m of load space, cargo anchors in each corner and 889kg payload.

First introduced in 2009 the Amarok has gained a reputation as a dependable utility in the Volkswagen line that complements the rest of the company’s family-friendly line-up.
