ben.drewe@thechronicle.com.au JACK Selman will chase another semi-final berth when he contests the 50-metre backstroke heats at the Australian Swimming Championships in Brisbane.

Selman made the 100 metre backstroke semis on Tuesday night and finished 12th and will again be out to progress past the heats with the goal of breaking through for a spot in the final.

The former Toowoomba swimmer, who now represents Indooroopilly, will be joined on the starting blocks by former Warwick star Max Ackermann, who also made the semi-finals of the 100-metre backstroke.

Marcus Elliott will have a busy morning as he has the heats for two events today – the 200-metre Para sport and 50-metre backstroke multi-class.

Former Toowoomba talent Matthew Briggs will also be in action in the 200-metre butterfly heats.

Meanwhile, Darling Downs swimmers were unable to progress past the heats at the second day of the meet yesterday.

Elliott was in action in the men's 100 metre freestyle multi-class heats and posted the 27th fastest time.

Briggs, who now represents Redcliffe Leagues, was 37th fastest in the men's 200 metre freestyle heats.

Academy member Alan Gibson set the 61st fastest time in the men's 100 metre breaststroke and missed out on the semi-finals.
