Construction begins on City’s greens
CITY Golf Club’s course superintendent, John Halter, and his staff have been working overtime recently to keep City’s greens pristine and functional for play.
During the recent rains, the bunkers had collected water and now the fairways and roughs constantly need to be cut.
This work has been needed in addition to Mr Halter working alongside course architect Richard Chamberlain on the construction of the new seventh green beginning.
In line with the club’s golf course master plan and capital expenditure, work on the much anticipated seventh green began last Tuesday.
Earthworks are well underway, with the hill behind the current seventh hole almost completely demolished already.
The new green will add 40m to the hole and will have two distinct left and right pin locations established from the ridge in the centre.
The green will be quite shallow, measuring 30m wide and only 15m deep, which will require players give serious thought to their club selection hitting in.
Additional green renovations will also begin this Monday, April 7, which will help keep the greens in excellent condition through the winter months.
City’s staff ask players to please be patient while this work is completed over the next few months and they look forward to an anticipated date for play on the new green as soon as November this year.
The improvements will certainly give club members another new challenge on the fantastic City layout.
