RACING: The management of Toowoomba Turf Club will take on a surprise new look after the departure of chairman Peter Turnbull from the management committee.

The club yesterday announced Turnbull’s retirement from the position two months after he took over the role from Bob Frappell who stood aside in October — in keeping with the club’s new constitution — after two terms in charge.

“It was in the best interest of the Toowoomba Turf Club that I have decided to retire from the management committee so that I can put my energy into a newly formed Wellness clinic,” Turnbull said in a TTC media release.

Long-time Toowoomba racing supporter and incumbent TTC deputy Kent Woodford will take over the reins as club chairman.

Sitting committee member Ken Bullen will fill the role of deputy chairman.

The board reshuffle also includes the introduction of high-profile Queensland racing identity Kevin Dixon to the club.

The founding chairman of the Brisbane Racing Club and former Racing Queensland head has accepted an invitation to fill the casual management committee vacancy created by Turnbull’s departure.

Woodford said he was appreciative of the committee support he carried into the top job and he welcomed the addition of Dixon to Toowoomba’s racing management.

“Kevin brings a wealth of racing administration experience and I am confident he will be an asset to the club,” Woodford said.

“The club has ambitious racing and business diversification strategies, and I am delighted to welcome Kevin, whose insight and experience will help the club realise our vision.”

In accordance with TTC rules, Dixon will be presented for member election prior to the 2017 annual general meeting.
