TOOWOOMBA Police has endured one of its craziest nights in 2017 as the POLAIR chopper was called in to deal with a spate of wild and dangerous driving incidents across town.

The carnage started on Friday night after a police officer was knocked over by a stolen vehicle, which then turned into a series of incidents that covered nearly a dozen Toowoomba suburbs during a seven-hour period.

Three people were arrested for the theft of two cars, along with dozens of other offences.

POLICE endured one of its most explosive nights of 2017 after stolen cars caused havoc on the streets of Toowoomba.

The POLAIR chopper was called in to help police arrest three people involved in different car chases across town, in an ordeal that spanned seven hours on Friday night.

It was a busy night for officers after the three separate incidents occurred during the same evening, two of which involved the same suspect.

The wild night first began when police tried to stop a suspicious four-wheel drive on Spring St in Kearneys Spring about 4.15pm, where a uniformed officer came up to the car to talk with the driver.

The car, allegedly driven by a 24-year-old Glenvale man, then sped off, knocking the officer over.

Police gave chase but the vehicle was found, burnt out, in Berghofer St at Biddeston.

About four hours later at 8.50pm, patrols noticed a suspicious vehicle on Spring St near where the officer was injured originally.

The car, believed to be a silver Commodore, evaded police until POLAIR 1 was in the sky, which kept track of it as it darted through Toowoomba streets.

Police deflated one of the tyres on the vehicle with spikes near South St, with the suspect abandoning the car on Kuhn St and the fleeing on foot.

Earlier reports suggested the man was arrested at Whalan Crt at about 9.30pm, where police charged the man with several offences.

While still in the sky, POLAIR 1 were asked to monitor a suspicious vehicle at about 11pm, which was believed to be linked to a stolen car report at 9.45pm in Harristown.

The car, which was believed to be a Kia and had three people on-board, drove onto the Warrego Hwy heading west before making a U-Turn at a petrol station.

Spikes were deployed to deflate the car’s tyres, which continued for another 2km until it came to rest on the side of highway.

The occupants fled on foot, with a 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man arrested and charged by police with the help of the dog squad.

The 20-year-old South Toowoomba man was charged with two offences, while the teenager was charged with one offence.

The entire evening captivated social media users, who effectively live-blogged the event as it entered nearly a dozen suburbs across the Toowoomba region.
