Mary’s win an eighth for jockey

- Glen McCullough glenm@thechronicle.com.au

Toowoomba filly Remember Mary will head to the paddock on a profitable note after presenting trainer Brian Azel with a bonus first-up victory at Clifford Park on Saturday.

Remember Mary ($5) helped continue the extraordinary run of March success being enjoyed by Toowoomba apprentice Baylee Nothdurft with an all-the-way display in the Pursehouse Rural QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (870m).

The Longhorn debutant had a long neck to spare on the line from fellow first-starter Two Plus Two ($3.60).

Humdrum ($7) was a half-neck back third to complete a trifecta of first starters.

Azel plans to rest Remember Mary despite her perky first-up performance.

“I expected her to maybe run a nice place first-up today,” Azel said.

“She’s shown us signs of having ability. I’ll give her a break now, and to win first up before going out is a bonus.

“It’s nice to see her win for her mother too (Mary’s Magique) who was a good mare.”

Nothdurft’s win on Remember Mary was his eighth in the space of 14 days since peeling off a winning Clifford Park double on March 4.

Toowoomba mare Isis Magic added to her impressive race record when she took a distance step in her stride with an all-the-way win in the Ray White Rural Pittsworth Class 5 Handicap (1110m).

Isis Magic ($2.25) packed plenty of punch in the home straight for jockey Beau Appo to outlast runner-up Bam’s Princess ($4.20) by 1 1⁄4 lengths.

Isis Magic’s victory was her fifth from seven starts for trainer Ben Currie. She’s Right ($5.50) also continued on her Clifford Park way when she wrapped up a successful day for the Michael Nolan stable.

She’s Right and jockey Skye Bogenhuber combined for their third successive home-track success with a front-running effort in the Moore Trailers Class 3 Handicap (1210m).

She’s Right outlasted the closing Far North ($7) by a nose with $2.60 favourite Ima Showman a length back third.

Jockey Kenji Yoshida reported to stewards Ima Showman had its tongue back, and he recommended to connections the four-year-old have a tongue-tie added to his gear.

The Nolan stable took out the $100,000 Goldmarket with Upstart Pride.
