Title in sight for Rangers

- Glen McCullough glenm@thechronicle.com.au

Toowoomba Rangers progressed to this season’s Pacific B League grand final with a convincing win over Narangba at Commonwealth Oval yesterday.

Rangers earned a weekend break ahead of the League decider at Pine Rivers on Sunday week.

Narangba now faces the winner of yesterday’s knock-out semi between All Stars and Rapids Green in the preliminary final, with the winner moving through to face Rangers.

Rangers gave up two runs in the first innings yesterday before quickly levelling at 2-all and taking the game ascendancy.

The host led 9-2 until the final innings, when the Demons scored another double to add further respectability to the scoreline.

“They never gave up. They kept fighting all the way,” Rangers’ coach Mick Locke said of the Demons, Toowoomba’s arch rival for the 2016-17 season.

“But it was a cracker of a game an we were solid today,” Locke said.

“Sam McNeice threw the whole game and did a great job for us. We also hit two home runs,” he said.

“Ian Horne hit one with two on bases to take us to a 5-2 lead and Nicholas Davis also hit one.

“We’ve got four of our five teams still in finals which is really positive and we’ll just enjoy a week off now and wait to see who we meet in the grand final.”
