Espresso bar to open in hospital
A NEW espresso bar will open in St Vincent’s Private Hospital as part of its $30 million development.
Original project plans for the hospital’s Clive Berghofer Operating Theatre Suite included converting the old hospital chapel into a new hospital cafe.
However, alternative plans are now in place.
Pulse Espresso Bar operated by Impressions on Scott will open within the hospital.
Pulse is planned to open from 9am to 6pm, seven days a week as of Monday, April 24.
It will be on the ground floor at entrance two.
A selection of sandwiches, wraps, breakfast wraps and other healthy breakfast options will be available as well as pre-made fruit salads, cakes, muffins and a set menu including hot soups, curries and hot pies.
Coffees, teas, juices, sparkling mineral waters and iced milk drinks will be on offer as well as a variety of sweets, chocolate bars and cheese and cracker snack packs.
Hospital CEO Kathryn McKeefry said Pulse would have limited seating because of the space restrictions.
To compensate for the lack of seating the espresso bar would be equipped with an internal phone line so staff and patients could phone their orders through in advance.
“Pulse patrons will be encouraged to order ahead to maximise the efficiency of the space and the service,” Ms McKeefry said.
The hospital’s Cape Chestnut Cafe is due to close on March 26.
For the convenience of patients, visitors, staff and doctors the hospital has arranged for a coffee cart service to be on site until Pulse Espresso Bar opens after Easter.
The Clive Berghofer Operating Theatre Suite project, which will add six new operating theatres, a new day surgery unit and recovery area, as well as a new kitchen and hospital cafe is running ahead of schedule. The completion date is December 2017.
