IF TOOWOOMBA residents need another reason to shop at the city’s newest Kmart store - here are 170.

In the lead up to its opening, one of Toowoomba’s favourite retailers has employed 170 new team members in a total workforce of about 200.

Kmart Toowoomba Central store manager Josh McGee and his management team had a large task of sorting through applications but were confident they had the best team possible.

Over the past few weeks staff have been training in preparation from the grand opening on Wednesday at 8am.

The training opportunities were varied so team members were exposed to a number of different tasks.

Some team members have also worked in the existing Kmart Toowoomba store to gain experience working with customers and perfecting their service skills.

“Training is nearly complete for the new team as they learn the ropes and get up to speed on the product ranges ahead of the opening,” Mr McGee said.

“We have used the past six weeks to ensure the shop is filled and ready to trade while we went through our day-to-day processes and working across all areas of the store.”

The 5203sq m store showcases Kmart’s new store layout which is being rolled out nationally.

The new and elevated store layout provides residents with all of Kmart’s coloured product worlds including clothing, toys and home.

Noticeable updates include central self-service checkouts, wider aisles for easy wheelchair and pram access, as well as bolder graphics for navigation and convenient shopping experience.

Kmart Toowoomba Central is the third store to be opened by the leading retailer nationally this year.

Mr McGee is eager to bring his passion and love for Kmart to the city and welcomes everyone to attend the opening day.

Kmart fans have already marked Wednesday, March 29 in their diary, with the store promising a fun-filled day of gift bag giveaways, face painting, a photo booth and food.
