Bramptons couple retires to travel

SOME golf, travel, charity work and hanging out with grandson Olly are on the cards for Bramptons owners Marjorie and Graham Hall.

The couple announced earlier this week they would retire and close the long-standing Toowoomba business’ two fashion stores.

Bramptons has been a mainstay in the Garden City since 1975.

It stocked clothing to suit any woman’s lifestyle and Australian fashion labels like Orientique.

Mr and Mrs Hall owned the business for more than 20 years and had ran up to three stores at one time.

The Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre store will close on April 13 followed by the Ruthven St store on May 15.

In March last year Bramptons opened a new store at Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre, which replaced a store at Wilsonton Shopping Centre.

Mrs Hall said it was the right time for the couple to bow out.

“I’ve been in the industry since hot pants and blazers were in fashion and now they’re coming back so they say that’s a sign it’s time to retire,” she laughed.

“We wanted to do it at a time when the girls could find employment. With all the developments happening around town, there are good opportunities to get retail work.”

Mrs Hall said the couple’s retirement would be far from boring.

“It’s time to sit back, relax and do lots and lots of travel while we still have our health,” she said.

“I have 12 good girlfriends and five have cancer which was a big reality check to do everything we can.

“First up is Kakadu and Darwin in June and July and then I want to go to New Zealand.

“We also want to go to Holland, Japan and discover more of Australia.”

Both stores will hold closing-down sales with up to 70 per cent off.

Mrs Hall thanked Toowoomba residents for their loyalty. Eight staff members had racked up long-service leave.

“It’s very sad; this has been a historical name in Toowoomba but there’s been plenty of happy memories,” she said.

“There’ll be cake, tea and coffee for our customers on our last days, so come say goodbye.”
