Owners give Jillys new life

Couple renovates city cafe

NEW owners have taken over the long-standing Jillys Cafe and plan to transform the upper level into a modern function area.

Lisa and Mark Bentley took over the Margaret St cafe earlier this month and the couple has wasted no time in getting renovations started.

The upstairs was previously used as a dining area, where patrons could sit and enjoy a meal.

However Mrs Bentley said the room was out-dated and she wanted to bring it up to the same standard as the stylish downstairs area.

“We want to bring it up to today’s modern standards. It is all a bit out-dated and we will be using that room to cater for different events,” she said.

“We are hoping the renovations will be complete by next week as we already have a couple of bookings.”

The couple live in Gatton. Mrs Bentley has a background in hairdressing; her husband worked as a mechanic.

Mrs Bentley said operating a cafe was something new to them but she was excited to take it on.

“Jillys is in a good position in town and we are hoping

with more businesses coming to the CBD, it will also bring new people,” she said.

“There is so much happening in town and if you offer great service and products people will come to you no matter where you are.”

She said all staff remained employed and the menu hadn’t changed.

“We want people to know nothing has changed with our menu. A lot of people love Jillys food so we don’t want to go messing with that,” she said.

“We do have plans for a new catering menu but that is something we will look at down the track.”

Jillys Cafe is open at 181 Margaret St, seven days a week.
