Ride the Range gives back to the community

- GETTING READY: Ready for Ride the Range are (from left) Sean Rooney, John O'Brien, Duane Parkinson, Eddie Brutnall and Stewart Peacock.

NOW in its seventh year, Rotary Ride the Range will eclipse the $150,000 mark in giving back to not-for-profit charities at this year’s event tomorrow.

Entries are streaming in for Ride the Range 2017 with many businesses getting on board for the corporate challenge.

Event Group Toowoomba’s Jo Capp said every year the event continued to surprise her, with this year’s biggest surprise being the number of entries in the 100 mile challenge (164km ride).

“The Rotary Ride the Range is a fantastic event allowing you, together with friends, to experience the spectacular scenery of our Great Dividing Range and the picturesque patchwork of the lush Lockyer Valley on safe and secure roads,” Mrs Capp said.

“With the recent rain the scenery should be beautiful for the cyclists taking part in this event.

“We have had a record number of cyclists taking on our biggest challenge out of the four rides – the 100 mile challenge which is not an easy feat.”

She said the “nifty fifty” (the 58km) was still one of the more popular with numbers for the 88km (The 88) and the 112km (The Classic) still up there with previous years.

Ride the Range is south west Queensland’s most popular community cycling events.

It was initiated by the Rotary Club of Toowoomba and aims to raise significant and vital funds for Australian Rotary Health Projects and RACQ Lifelight Rescue.

The event is supported by more than 100 volunteers from Rotary clubs, Lockyer Valley schools and The Glennie School.

This year’s event tomorrow will once again start and finish at Picnic Point from 6am with registrations from 5.30am.
