Gold Coast designer’s new range is a lesson in layering

THERE’S still a place for that mini dress in your winter wardrobe. With long-sleeved blouses stacked under slinky slips and velvety jumpsuits, Queensland designer Isabelle Quinn’s latest collection is a lesson in layering. Fresh from the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, her autumn-winter range is designed for maximum mileage as we transition through the seasons. “Growing up on the Gold Coast and still being based here my collections are quite trans-seasonal due to the Queensland weather,” Isabelle says. “I want to provide a bit of everything for my customers as I sell both nationally and internationally. You can see this in my latest collection AW17 Stevie, which was shown at VAMFF last week. I’ve designed mini slips and jumpsuits that can be worn by themselves in warmer months, but can still be layered with blouses and big faux fur coats for those in cooler areas.” The hands-on designer describes her latest look, made for modern romantics, as a cheeky cross between the Spice Girls and Stevie Nicks, tied together with a touch of French flair. “I would say my look has evolved. I definitely still stay true to my design aesthetic, but learning new tools and techniques over time I’ve been able to do more,” Isabelle says.

“In my latest collection we played with electric pleating our own fabric, which turned out to be gorgeous.
