Toowoomba touch fixtures up and running in opening round

-

The first round of Toowoomba touch fixtures start today at the Kearneys Spring Sports Complex in what could prove to be a very close competition in both the men’s and women’s A grade.

In the first round of men’s fixtures the match of the day should be the grand final rematch from last year with defending premiers Saints taking on Roosters.

Saints will again start as competition favourites on the back of their ability to field an almost unchanged playing roster for the last several years while Roosters will go into this game minus a number of players who are unavailable for this game such as attacking players Kev Platz and Shane Whitehouse.

In other games the young Sharks side will be looking to build on its form from last year when they only narrowly missed out a grand final appearance when they play Lions who will be blooding a number of new players in the top grade.

Royals will be looking to start the season with a win when they take on Rebels Hurricanes.

In women’s fixtures the match of the round should be the game between Roosters and Saints with both sides fielding a number new faces to their line up.

Roosters have been able to secure the services of current open women’s captain Lizzie Campbell while Saints will welcome Australian touch and rugby 7’s representative Shenae Ciesiolka to their team which should make for a classic encounter between the traditional rivals. In other fixtures defending premiers Fairholme play a new look Rebels Hurricanes and Lions who have recruited well in the off season play Sharks.
