Thunder’s thriller at Suncorp

Suncorp Stadium was a fitting venue for Thunder’s thrilling 4-3 loss against to the Brisbane Roar youth.

Upstaging the main event of the day between the Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory, Thunder battled in an end-to-end game against the Roar youth, scoring what could be one of the goals of the season in the process.

The dream encounter did not to phase Thunder, which went in at half time 2-1 up.

Vice captain Tom Fanning’s strike caught the eye of spectators as Thunder fought to keep hold of its lead.

“I don’t think they were overawed but they played well and it was an exciting game that went from end-to-end,” Thunder assistant coach Mick Turvey said.

“Tom Fanning scored one of the best goals I’ve seen. It was goal of the year. He curled it around the keeper. It was pretty spectacular.”

Thunder couldn’t find an equaliser as the clock ticked down, and Turvey is not ruling out a reshuffle this weekend as the club searches for its first win of the season.

“We have still got to try a few new boys up front,” he said.

“We have Kimba (Kibombo), Mussy (Jafari), Anthony Grant and Lathan Dunne in the under 20s who is finding the net.

“We are very committed to them and if we aren’t getting results we will make changes because we have to if we want to move forward.”
