Autumn on show in Allora

Festival set to grow in second year

-

WHAT started as a bit of a street dinner party to celebrate autumn in Allora has turned into something a lot bigger.

Last autumn, Christine Gleeson mentioned the idea of holding a community celebration dinner in Allora’s Drayton St and it wasn’t long before ideas started rolling in for other activities to join the line-up.

Soon enough, the Allora Autumn Festival was born and organising committee secretary Sharlene Gladman said it went off with such a bang they decided to incorporate the group and have another go.

She said this year’s event would be much bigger and featured a huge list of activities including garden tours, a bush dance, markets, a gourmet barbecue breakfast, historical walks and tours of the Mary Poppins house where author P.L. Travers spent part of her childhood.

The event also coincided with the Allora State School’s 150th birthday

celebrations, which would include a raft of activities like the opening of a time capsule and the burying of a new one as well as a bush dance tonight and fun activities between 9am and 4pm tomorrow.

Ms Gladman said almost the whole Allora community supported the festival and offered to help where possible.

She said this year’s action

had already kicked off with a tree decorating competition.

Last year it attracted two entries and this year it had grown to 22 entries, with joint first place going to going to the Allora Red Hatters and Sarah and Stacey Turner.
