-

GRAND champion steers from Rosevale Park Santa Gertrudis, Bolivia, selling to a top of 424c/kg (average 228.5kg), were part of a quality yarding of santa gertrudis cattle for the Annual Santa and Santa Infused Show and Sale held in Warwick last Friday.

George McVeigh, of Top X, said strong prices were welcomed at the sale.

“The market was fully firm to stronger,” Mr McVeigh said.

“At Tuesday’s fat sale, santa steers sold to 358c/k. Based on the results achieved today, the market was 38–66c/kg stronger on steers.

“Over the past seven years, this sale has consistently produced rates well above other sales held around the same time. I invite all santa gertrudis breeders to support this very successful sale in April 2018.”

A yarding of more than 210 head were penned by agents George McVeigh, of Top X, and David Friend, of Nowlan Livestock, Killarney.

The yarding was judged by Augathella santa breeder Jacob Ross, who congratulated vendors on the presentation of a quality yarding of santa gertrudis and santa cross cattle.

Mr Friend said the quality of the yarding was as good as there had been over the seven years of the sale.

“The seasonal conditions over the past few months, with some dry weather, it has made it difficult for some of the usual vendors to finish cattle to their satisfaction, which resulted in several vendors withdrawing their lots at the last minute,” he said.

“Conditions have improved with the rainfall associated with Cyclone Debbie. There was significant feed growth in most parts but some would like a shower of rain with oats coming on.”
